Tony, another terrific thread! A delightful historical progression that I will try to add to over time. It is nice to have a "tell" along with the "show".

A new addition I acquired recently.

It is a text book example of the modifications and changes to regulations brought in about 1934. The cap is tellerform in shape for an artillery officer/nco.

It's never had a chinstrap and sports the light brown cotton lining and interestingly, has a cork and orange sponge at the front.

the insignia represents the very slim time period between the revival of the national cockade in march 1933 to replace the weimar reichs adler, and the intro of the national emblem (eagle) from may 1934 onwards......

Pioneer officers cap by Georg Kurz of Braunschweig.

An example of what is often referred to as a "transitional cap" covering the period 1934 - 1936 when the fashion for caps moved from the teller form to the more popular saddle shape and the cap band turned from the field grey to the dark green.

This example sports the " 1st pattern" insignia and field grey colour band and a more traditional shape although it has been worked on to get a more jaunty look.

It has the orange sponge dating it past 1934. It has only ever had the national cockade on the cap band as there are no holes to show previous application of the weimar eagle.

The cap has a makers logo under the celluloid identifying it as the above (see p 281of wilkins) but no lettering underneath to give a clue other than that.

here's an example of the "granddaddy" of the last cap...an artillery officers cap for prussian officer circa 1967 model.

Thank you for the fine thread. The army Pionier cap is a product of Clemens Wagner, Braunschweig. I have an SS cap of similar date and identical interior.
