lovely cap..............they just keep on coming !

Here are some more portrait shots I picked up to show the schirmmütze in wear.

circa 1924 this soldier was a member of freikorps Epp. note no chin strap.



these two date from 1928 on and show a bavarian regt. officer with the new style cap with silver cords and nco with a cracking private purchase cap by the look of things.

Hi,

Latest pictures from me. Officers this time.

First picture is dated 1924 and is interesting because the officer still wears the WW1 issue tunic but with the 1919 pattern universal collar insignia and the cap has the black chin strap that was standard for all ranks.



The second photo is the same officer but dated July 1934. Just put it in because they came together.



As a comparison this officer has the 1927 pattern cap with the new silver cords for officers. It is dated Sept 1928. Fabulous profile shot and the Horse looks full of character as well.

Another find. This rather nice shot of an infantry oberfeldwebel from a bavarian Regt. Can't quite make out the numerals on the schulterklappen to pin it down. High collar M1920 eight button tunic is shown to advantage, my guess the cap is private purchase with officer cockade.

Hi

Nice portrait shot of a tree trunk I was taken with on E bay, judging by the pattern on the bark I would say its a late 1920's issue tree.

The bonus is that next to the trunk was gefreiter from 7 Kompanie 15th JR and the date wriiten on the back is 18th May 1928 allowing us to date the tree accordingly.


He wears the m1920 tunic with the high collar . A marksman award on the cuff plus the sports award on his breast pocket.

M1920 peaked cap is shown to advantage.

Hi,

If I may share these with you in order to keep the thread going with some more pictures. Some recently acquired and some that have been in my "in tray" awaiting cataloguing.

The first is a cracking shot dated 1920 on the rear showing avery young man still in WW1 uniform but bearing the insignia of the provisional reichswehr.



Next two show the new uniform and insignia following the creation of the reichswehr in 1921.



The two shots of soldiers IR 17, one with the traditions badge of IR 92 making him a member of either komp1 or 4. Note the cockade on his cap. (nothing Prussian about that!)



Next few shots show soldiers with Sabres...........a common theme in the photographers right through the 1920 and 1930's, these pictures date from 1920 to 1932/33.



Final shots show the new uniform from 1928 and the insignia of 1933 onwards.....what TR collectors deem transitional uniform but I prefer "the end of an era" to describe these rather elegant items of uniform.



That said I am biased !

No Thread on the 100,000 man Reichswehr would be complete without a photo of their Commander, Hans von Seeckt...I consider him the "Father" of the modern Wehrmacht, as his leadership and the Reichswehr's high standards of training provided the professional cadre we encounter later in WWII...I have his -very rare- signature in my collection as well...
