Hi Danny, what metal is this, did you photograph it with or without flash.. is it supposed to be Gold coloured or Silver?
Gold coloured badges are fairly easy to identify as "real" if you know what the "Fire Guilding" process involves. It's fairly unmistakable when compared to modern plating methods and was a fairly lengthy (and dangerous) process, as it involved composing a mixture of fine ground gold particles and Mercury, mixed into a guilding paste..
Hi,
It is Silver and light weight. I just took some better pictures and will replace the gold colored ones. I appreciate your feedback on the fire guilding process.
Thanks, Danny
No prob Danny, knowing the metal is one of the best methods of detecting real or fakes from this period, I need not tell you how advanced Deutschland was with metallurgy.. Look up "Fire Guilding" for future though, it's quite interesting how it's done and you'll have a valuable piece of info.
On the badge.. I think I have a fake one of these in silvered metal, I'll check it for ref and get back.
Just checked, mine's crap compared to the one you've pictured, has only 2 prongs and does'nt have the round pip attachments.

Looks like a good aluminum example IMO. ? Referring to the RZM list on this site, it is maker Richard Seiper and Sohn
Hi Bill,
Thanks for looking at my eagle. Forgive my ignorance, but when you say good example. Do you mean good repro or good original ? It is definetly aluminum. I just took some better pictures . Maybe you could check them out when you get a chance. Also, what does IMO mean?
Thanks Again,
Danny
