DRK medic badge? or just a fantasy item?

Hi guys,
I bought this diamond shaped badge ("ärmelraute") a couple of months ago from a US dealer. He told me it's a red cross (DRK)

DRK medic badge? or just a fantasy item?

medic badge. I am not to sure if it is a genuine item. Any thoughts?

I cannot comment on whether this sleeve diamond is original or not, but it is not a fantasy item. This is the badge worn by the German Red Cross' fully qualified physicians (both male and female).

Is that background black?
It's an original officers grade anyway. But if it is on a black cloth, then it is quite a rare (ish) badge

I think i am right in saying that with a bead around the edge it would be for a Doctor, without is medical personnel

You are thinking about the SS version here.

SS physicians [Ärzte] wore a black sleeve diamond with a fully embroidered Aesculapius rod and outer piping; other SS medical personnel [Sanitätspersonal] wore an unpiped black sleeve diamond where just the outline of the Aesculapius rod was embroidered.

The dark grey, unpiped sleeve diamond with a fully embroidered Aesculapius rod was worn by German Red Cross [Deutsches Rotes Kreuz] physicians; this was the only diamond-shaped sleeve badge used by the DRK.

Hi Pieter, the badge looks original to me.

(I can show a couple of photos of the SS Officers wearing their version if anyone wishes to see them, however both wear non regulation unpiped versions.)

By the way, I had described the SS physician's sleeve badge as piped from memory; this is also how it is pictured in Mollo's "Uniforms of the SS" and several other works. Looking at period pictures, though, one has to notice that it usually seen in the unpiped version.
