    Default Frontbann

Frontbann was formed in April 1924 and was specifically created to replace the SA which was then banned in the aftermath of the failed Munich "Beer Hall" Putsch, although the organisation (Frontbann) was disbanded in February 1925.

The Frontbann Badge was established in 1932 by SA Gruppe Berlin-Brandenburg to commemorate the organisation.

The badge is small and measures approximately 20 mm across with the declaration on the swastika arms of WIR WOLLEN FREI WERDEN ("We want to be free").

It was listed as an official decoration of the NSDAP in 1933, however by the end of 1934 this status was removed.

I personally know of original examples marked "21", "63" and "ZM OST" and unfortunately, fakes abound.

    David

For those being interested the announcement for the Frontbann-badge in the Mitteilungsblatt der Reichszeugmeisterei
number 8 from July 21, 1934 (page 6) iss shown. Note they mention it a "new insignia". The announcement further mentions
the RZM-sign should be included, as well as the number for the permission for manufacturing:

    Frontbann Frontbann

It was officially allowed to be worn with a political uniform with order 37/33 from November 9, 1933 as published in the
Verordnungsblatt der Reichsleitung der NSDAP number 59 from November 11, 1933.
In the Verordnungsblatt de Obersten SA-Führung number 33 from September 19, 1933 a new arrangement for wearing
orders and decorations was published with number 4 (page 2). The Frontbann-badge (Frontbann-Nadel) was mentioned
no longer allowed to be worn.

In post 1 is mentioned "ZM Ost". This means Zeugmeisterei, Zweigstelle Ost, which was located at Berlin at the Wilhelmstrasse.
Who knows West, Mitte, Nord and Süd were also included. A list with the various depots was included in the Verordnungsblatt der
    Obersten SA-Führung
from February 1, 1933. The list also included Nordmark, Schlesien, Magdeburg, Südwest and Österreich.
Further Friedrich Benson was a sort of Zeugmeister at that moment, located at Königsberg. Later (per April 1, 1933) the system
was totally changed and the new Reichszeugmeisterei did exist at Munich.

    Dear Wilhelm

Thankyou for this most detailed information.

Interesting to note perhaps that the badge is featured within the 1934 print of "Die Uniformen der Braunhemden".

    David

I'm going to take a shot here and say that these badges are not exactly "reasonably priced"?
