    Hello all,

Don't really know where to post this but I believe it is a Table Medal of the Third Reich era so I thought this would be an appropriate place.

What is this exactly? Recognition for photographer association or something like that?

VDAV is Vereinstag deutscher Arbeitervereine (Congress of the German Workers Association). Fur hervorragende leistungen is for outstanding achievements.
I'm guessing a photographic club in the VDAV.

    Gunny,

I appreciate the information, thank you! Judging from the front, it almost looks like nature photography.

Sorry, but that's a different VDAV.
Here, VDAV stands for Verband Deutscher Amateurphotographen-Vereine. [Association of German Amateur Photographers' Clubs.]

    Hi William,

That is correct. This is a plaque awarded 'For Outstanding Services' by the V.D.A.V. (Verband Deutscher Amateurfotografen Vereine - German Amateur Photographic Society) in the district of Bayern. It may well be pre Third Reich, there are no nazi insignia, so who knows?

    Regards, Ned.

    Ned,

Might be a rookie question but I had assumed "Gau" was a Third Reich term, is this not true?

It is an old Germanic name, revived by the Nazis, but not invented by them.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks, Ade. That would at least estimate this one as Third Reich era though, correct?
