The braid [Tresse] stripes were duty position insignia [Dienststellenabzeichen].
The system was rather complex: The braid came in two different colors (silver and gold) and three different widths (9 mm, 16.5 mm and 34 mm), and there were 14 different combinations of these stripes for the various duty positions.
As for your armbands specifically:
Ordinary members that did not hold any special duty position within the organisation wore armbands without any stripes.
A single 9 mm-wide silver Tresse - as seen here - identified a Mitglied des Beirats [board member] of a Kriegerkameradschaft [the lowest, local-level unit of the Kyffhäuserbund/DRKB/NS-RKB], while a gold one was for a Kriegerkameradschaftsführer [head of a local-level unit].
Thank you, sir. Didn't know a gold one existed either.
