Re: Large Unknown Commemorative SA Medal
5th March 1933 was a German federal election, where the Nazis won greater power in the government:
"March 5, 1933 (Sunday) German election, 1933: National Socialists gain 43.9% of the votes. The Nazi Party, led by Chancellor Hitler, won 288 of the 647 seats available (44%), while the Social Democrats, led by Otto Wels, received 120. The outlawed Communist Party (KPD), led by Ernst Thälmann, was third with 81 seats, but none of the winning KPD candidates were allowed to take office."

Re: Large Unknown Commemorative SA Medal
Interesting piece. I have never seen this particular medal before. It certainly has the quality work of the period.

Re: Large Unknown Commemorative SA Medal
Gentlemen,
Thanks for the post, yes it's a quality piece (probably due to the fact it was made at the Bavarian Mint). Rob I didn't know the significance of 5th March 1933, it may well have a part connection for the medal, a weeks SA meeting starting on election day, I think more than coincidence ( they were confident, they would get a result) a following week of just purely celebrations? - even in those days it was a long time, I think they must have had other things on the addenda?. Still I don't doubt there's some association to the election. Thanks for the help.

Re: Large Unknown Commemorative SA Medal
Hi Dave,
Sorry about the delay, I looked on the medal rim, there's no "Silber 990" stamp on my piece, just "Bayerisches Hauptmunzamt" stamp on rim. Does yours look silvery? as its seems not so different from mine, which in the hand has a distinct bronze look to it, my pictures show a medal with a silver sheen to it, but its the flash light affect from the camera. Do you have any further information about the medal's porpose ?
Regards

Re: Large Unknown Commemorative SA Medal
Alech, I don't have any info on the medallion ,I got it from a vet that came to a military show i used to have in north Jersey, said he picked it up in Germany after the war. The difference i see between the two is yours is a bronze color and mine is a dull silver (i don't want to polish it) ,your medal has a suspension ring mine does not.Hope someone will know exactly what we have,it is a nicely made item...........DAVE H
