Hi Bob

cracking nssk collection.....

If i may add an example of the first pattern eagle for the record.............sadly no longer in my collection. I believe it went to Russia after living with me for a while....

This was the first piece of headgear I bought when I started collecting again (for the third time) !



inside was marked with owners name and the unit 25/M85.

from what I know the M85 is the regiment based in Lindau, and according to the command structure of 1942/43 was included in motorobergruppe Süd.

The label: RZM tag : code :L6/3 making its a 1936 manufacture by Carl Burse of Mainz whose licence number is 020778. (L is for leather)

Hi Lars-
I will get you pictures later today. I am not sure what flag you are referring to. I have never seen a flag in the rear of a NSKK sturzhelm. I have owned and handled a lot of them over the years.

I think something got lost in translation from Germany. I think what was meant by "flag" must be the rear leather neck piece. Does this make more sense to you? That drivers often removed that?

Very nice display Horst These helmet emblems are quite impressive. Questions: Are they hard to find? Are they expensive? The one i am looking at does not have the emblem any longer.

Lars - thanks - the emblems are out there now and then usually around $150 - $200 -

Thank you Horst, Bob and Spandau. I am sure now the seller meant the leather "flap" on the rear of the helmet. I can try and upload some pics of the helmet later. He want's 400 Euro for it. No emblem and the rear "flap" missing. I believe him saying many drivers removed this back then.

With no disrespect to the seller, I believe his explanztion of the missing neck guard is a sales ploy and not something based on reality. I have seen many of these sturzhelm over the years and never observed a cut out neck guard. This certainly would not have been allowed in period. The majority of NSKK men did not own their own sturzhelm. They belonged to their Motorstandarte. If they altered a piece in such a manner, undoubtedly they would not be allowed to wear it and would have to pay for a replacement.

Lars - Bob Coleman has a great looking NSKK Sturtzhelm on the "For Sale" forum -400 Euros is +- $500 for the beat up one , maybe you can negotiate with Bob and pick up a complete nice one from a reputable fellow member and long time collector.

Thanks a lot for your precious answer. I passed on it and saved my money.
I know well the NSKK-Sturzhelm with the first ans 2nd pattern eagle, but this one were never seen.

There's remains of an eagle shape. Maybe done with a Polizei eagle?
