From the limited illustration, the piece appears to be period. An inside photo of an RZM tag and eigentum stamps would confirm this opinion.

The design of the sturtzhelm was not unique to the Motor SA and NSKK. Similar models were available in period for civilian purchase. I have seen several of the civilian models made in to political sturtzhelm by the simple addition of the eagle insignia. For this reason, it is important to see the interior for proper tagging and stamps.

Thanks for that information Bob. I collect steel helmets, but from time to time have considered dropping a few hundred dollars on one of these. This information may have saved me a decent chunk of change. Jim G.
