looks like a nice original to me. not sure if the cloth backing has been replaced..
Looks like the ones that I have seen in reference books. The felt does look like it might be a replacement.
Hummel
Thanks Hummel, I've posted this along with a Luft helmet from the group in the Helmet Forum; may give a better feel as to original or not. best, hal
What was the value ? if you dont mind me asking?
Nice period original NSKK traffic gorget. The felt backing came in various colors and yours appears to be original to the gorget. The piece is in fine condition. The cloth should fit under the bent rim on the backside of the gorget.

Interesting piece, I've not seen one of these before. Must be quite rare?
Rare is a term that for me is overused in today's collector world. In comparison to a black wound badge or political armband, it could be considered rare. Compared to a Teno officer's dagger or a German Order, no. These gorgets were worn by NSKK members assigned to traffic control duty. I have encountered a number of them over the years so in my mind, they would not be considered rare. I would consider them to be less frequently encountered than a Feldgendarmerie gorget or a NSDAP gorget. I hope you understand where I am coming from. With today's demand for original 3rd Reich material, much of what was quite common years ago is considered by many newer collectors to be "rare" these days.

Might not be rare per se, but certainly different than the feldgendarmarie gorget.
