    The description from Nick (Stickgrenade) is correct.
    It is indeed part of a R.A.D. cap badge.

    Looks like someone hammered nail holes into it
    for attaching to something.

    I have seen badges and medals that had holes put in them to mount them to boards for display.
    Here is a pre 39 wound badge that was tacked to a board.

    I have a WWII era badge that has had two holes drilled into it
    for the same reason..................!

    Thank you for your iD, yes I am sure it is part of a R.A.D. cap badge (have also been looking at the web).
