I have to ask you RAD-Experts a question
In this link ( I hope I'm allowed to post it) is a "Dienstaltersliste" of the RAD and there are only 38 Oberstarbeitsführer in it. It this a correct number of this rank? You will see a list when you scroll down a bit.

    Dear Wilhelm

    Absolutely no idea!

I took a calculated chance on the first buckle which was advertised for sale by a US dealer as "de-nazified", with your superb RAD buckle article from the Military Advisor all those years ago, memorised and fully in mind.

The "golden one" and bearing in mind that it was also manufactured by Assmann, was bought with the same slightly Neanderthal philosophy on my part.

It is really anyones guess as to whether the gold finish was applied pre 1945 or post 1945. I thought that is was worth the chance "just in case" and the oddity value is as such that I decided to and for the moment, retain it.

    Regards and best wishes,

    David

    Hello David,

If I would have come across a "golden" anodized RAD enlisted buckle,
I would have mentioned it in the same article, you mention. No source,
and I have many, from the RAD does mention it. The Verordnungsblatt
or the RAD-handbook surely would have mentioned it.

If all parts of the buckle are from aluminium it is easy to have it golden
anodized (goldfarbig eloxiert). This I found out myself in the later
1970's when a German manufacturer offered me to anodize whatever
I wanted. This was a result, due to the various visits at the Overhoff-
concern (they could not do that as they did not golden anodize). They
asked the concern to take over the job I was looking for......

The result was I stopped collecting immediately when all was returned.
I cannot remember if I had send with the lot also a RAD buckle. But it
were many (about 20 they anodized for me), mainly being officers types.
I rate the buckle to be postwar anodized!
