Reichskriegerbund - War Commemorative Medal

I think, everybody knows the War Commemorative Medal of the German Reichskriegerbund, later renamed to NS-Reichskriegerbund.

On June 19, 1921 the Reichskriegerbund issued - the medal was issued, not awarded - a war commemorative medal to all veterans, who had participated the 1st World War. Soon the veterans like to get a miniature of the medal and in april 1922 the Reichskriegerbund could deliver the first miniatures to their members.

And here a mistake happend to fabrication. The original text written on the medal shows: "Aufrecht und stolz gehen wir aus dem Kampfe" (straight and proudly we are leaving the fighting fields) and mostly all of the miniatures shows this text also.
BUT there are some miniatures showing "Aufrecht und froh gehen wir aus dem Kampfe" (straight an happy we are leaving...). These miniatures are once in a blue moon.

And here is another important fact to the War Commemorative Medal:

Sometimes you will find a ribbon bar with a ribbon looking like the ribbon of the War Merit Cross 2nd class or the War Commemorative Medal.

Both ribbons showing same colours ! They vary only in width of stripes!

Very interesting information Peter. They weren't very imaginative with the war merit cross ribbon. Like all governments, they were as inept in 1922 as 2011.
