VDA donation badges

    Default VDA donation badges

Yet another aspect of daily life in the Third Reich was charity collections. The WHW (Winterhilfswerk/winter charity work), was the largest, being a national organisation covering every Gau of Germany. The VDA (Volksbund für das Deutschem im Ausland/Peoples association for Germanness overseas) was a means for Germans living overseas to keep in touch with culture back home. It started off in 1880 as the DSV, operating out of Wien (Vienna), but by 1925 it had become the VDA, operating out of Berlin. Their particular donation badges all centred on aspects of German culture and history, and here are some of mine. They measure approx. 30mm x 15mm, and are almost all made of metal, save four which are made of paper.

Lots Eric! Once I'm finished my Städtewappen auslandsdeutscher Städte items, I'll move onto something else I've been buying some great VDA postcards lately, I'll post those soon. I'm working my way through the Tieste VDA book on this thread.
