What was this eagle used for?

Article about: I bought this eagle from the same WW 2 vet that I bought the LW 2 dagger from, so I am sure it is legit. It is in exceptional condition - like it was made yesterday! It is large - approx. 9.

I bought this eagle from the same WW 2 vet that I bought the LW 2 dagger from, so I am sure it is legit. It is in exceptional condition - like it was made yesterday! It is large - approx. 9.5 cm. Is it a breast eagle? Or a hat eagle? Thanks for help.

The badge is indeed a breast eagle for the Nazi backed WW1 Veterans association, the National Socialist State Soldiers League, the NSRKB or Nationalsozialistisches Reichskriegerbund .

    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks for the info guys. I see it has no RZM on it, just Ges. Gesch. Does that mean it is old - before RZM came into being?

    Actually, no.

Ges. Gesch means "Gesetzlich Geschützt" or Registered patent/design/trademark.

The NSRKB was formed in 1938. The RZM pre dates this by almost a decade.

RZM marks were only applied to items of insignia which were made for elements of the NSDAP (such as SA, SS, HJ, NSKK etc etc). I think you will find even though this organisation had Nationalsozialistisches in it's title, it was not a Party organisation per se.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks for this info, Ade. I guess I didn't think about the NSRKB NOT being a part of the party.

The NSKOV or Nationalsozialistische Kreigopferversorgung was a Party affiliated social welfare veteran's group for those seriously wounded or those who were front line fighters. This unit flag and pole top display their logo. The organization was founded in 1934. This flag comes from the inception period evidenced by the static swastika.
