What is this Nazi Award Plaque?

It is very common, especially in Germany post war, for names to be removed from anything which would connect one to the Nazis in any way.

I quite agree, but then they should have thrown out the whole thing....
Its pretty much screaming 'NAZI' without having the name of your son or yourself still on it.
But the possibilities are legion of course.
The owner could have removed the offending or revealing plaque and given the eagle away or what ever.

I never was interested in buying it in the first place, but I still think it is a cool piece. Condition aside, I have never seen this style plaque before.

I have seen that style eagle before, but never knew the specifics.
Here on a lighter from Bulgaria (most likely a Fourth Reich item).
Quite ironic seen with moden eyes, that I now learn the stylized eagle on a lighter is representing the NSRL/TR 'Health Department.'

The DRL eagle is much favoured for some reason by fakers. But then again, it is a nice design.

I see no problems with the plaque though.

I did leave out a pretty interesting part of the story. The seller owns an antique business, he got the plaque in Thailand from the elderly German, but the elderly German was not the first owner, he himself received it from another guy years and years earlier.

Personally, I would not consider buying this piece. The details of the eagle lack the sharpness I would expect from a period award. As Ade said, the design of NSRL eagle has always appealed to the fakers. I believe this to be another example of their work.
