Why the difference in eagles?

Article about: Just to clarify, I have seen the first in post15 named as being RS-RKB. Is that the same as the Soldatenbund? Tom

Default Why the difference in eagles?

I have these two stick pins. I would guess the gold one is for an officer. My question is why are the heads facing different directions? Is there a reason why heads are pointing left or right in TR eagles? Thanks

My fellow Mod Pierre posted a good article somewhere on the forum re eagles head direction.

    Cheers, Ade.

Ade - I looked, but he has over 100 pages of threads, and I do not know if he STARTED the thread. Maybe there is an easier way to find it? I do not know my way around the forum that well.

Ade is correct, first one is indeed Navy. It is also one of the first models whereas the silver one is the second version Heer. Hope this helps.

That does not answer my question as to why some eagles face left, and some face right.

I think he was just telling you what he knew!

My understanding is: Originally, the design was to show the eagle's head facing to its right when used as a national symbol, and to its left when used as a Nazi Party symbol, but this convention was not always followed

Well, that could be, but it doesn't explain why two stick pins with EKs on them (which I assume means they are for vet's organisations) are facing in different directions. Could it be Naval eagles are facing different than Heer?
