Appears to be an original Deutsche Reichsbahn officials buckle. I do not understand the hierarchy of the Deutsche Reichsbahn, although it has been suggested (Angolia) that the buckle was worn by persons within a certain pay grade and that an officer status actually did not exist. The buckle shown appears to be the "gold" finished aluminium type, by Assmann of course and with an abbreviated year of manufacturer stamp.

I think this is not a rare buckle as a buckle by itself and it is often seen with an extreme loss of the "gold" finish. The one shown however is in super condition and of course, complete with what appears to be the fully intact original leather strap, albeit with the loss of the 2 leather "runners".

The combination of a first class condition buckle being supported by the original strap and even with the absence of the runners, is in my opinion now quite rare.

    Regards,

    David

Perhaps Pierre, one of the forum members who specialises in "circular" buckles will chip in here. I still see no obvious problems with the one that you have shown and I really would not be too worried about the thickness of the leather. This thickness did vary by the manufacturers standards and of course, a gradual reduction in thickness by wear. The stitching appears normal and of course in wear, this would be hidden by the leather runner.

Thankyou for the "link". A super example, although grossly over priced in my opinion (as are all the other buckles).

    Regards,

    David
