"Golden" DLV

Here are images of a very peculiar DLV that I recently bought from a former advanced collector.

A "golden" DLV.

All signs would suggest the classic Assmann design, however this buckle is die stamped brass. The obverse has a factory applied gold paint finish and yet the reverse is silver paint.

Any comments would be welcome.

your new buckle is very interesting!

I never heard from a golden variant of this buckle before and have three questions in this context:

Wich unit could have worn such a buckle?

Are there period catalogues mentioning this buckle in a golden colour?

How can we be sure that the paint was a factory applied gold finish?

Thankyou for the comments chaps, however I can add little more.

I am absolutely sure that the obverse gold paint finish is factory applied, however I know of no reliable reference or trade catalogue which makes comment to a "gold" version of this buckle.

Please remember that the buckle is die stamped BRASS. Has anyone ever seen a brass DLV before. I certainly have not.

Correct me if I am wrong, however I think that possibly the DLV box buckle was introduced in the early 1930's and the circular Leaders buckle in the mid 1930's.

Perhaps an experimental attempt toward an early differentiation between Enlisted and Leaders ?

Having said that, do we agree that it looks like an Assmann ?

I agree, David, Assmann is most probably the maker.

According to my instinct, I tend to a kind of officials buckle, if the gilding is really period.
