An interesting thread. Here's one with a pigskin tab and a couple of aluminum buckles. The RS&S is one of my favorite buckles from a large collection I got last fall.

My friend Guido has a SHD buckle made of zink! Maybe he reads this thread and posts some pictures of his buckle. It's in really great condition!

    Dear Markus

I know of only a few SHD buckles manufactured in zinc that are within private collections and as I mentioned before, a relatively unknown and undocumented "variant". I fully agree with your assessment that the aluminium SHD buckles are very rare whilst of course the steel SHD buckles are still easily found and often in very good condition.

    Dear Kirby

Super to see your steel SHD, complete with a pig leather tongue!

    Regards,

    David

Nice buckle Marcus. The one I posted with the pigskin tab is a GB and if I remember correctly it is marked GB by the catch and a year under the prong bar.

Lovely looking buckles guys. Just a query on pigskin tabs, how common are they and why did they happen? Can you recognise pig skin by the dimples in the leather???

It has been suggested that the numbers encountered under the pin shroud of the steel SHD buckle and actually other buckles by Gustav Brehmer of Markneukirchen are in fact production batch related, rather than being an abbreviation for the year of manufacture.

    David
