Reichswehr - 1935 Unit Marked

A new addition to the Reichswehr buckles. This is a very interesting buckle and the price was nice as well. Full Overhoff & Cie leather maker mark and very nice overall condition. Just pre-Third Reich 1935 buckle and nicely unit stamped. And, the is buckle is from the Angolia collection and is on page 66 of the revised edition book.

Any insight on the unit marking is appreciated, I could not locate any information on this stamping myself.

I'm taking a stab and am probably wrong as I don't study this..I'm sure this is 2nd nature to others and hopefully they come along for you...

2nd MG Company / 2nd Battalion / 2nd Regiment ????

Here is a WW1 1914 German Organizational chart. MG were are listed as a company.



And this...It says there were 3 MG companies...but this is 1914, not intrawar years.

Thanks. But this buckle is what I would loosely call a 'transitional pre-Third Reich 1935 buckle ' Given that, do not think 1914 Org Charts are applicable. To be sure, this 1935-36 period was a rapidly changing time, and so quite interesting

Yes, the pics are WW1 but it was to give general idea.

This might help a bit more after some more digging. But it is WW2 era MG Battalions.

-Nachrichtenstaffel (transmission) mit Fernsprechtrupp und Funktrupp (one radio and one telephone squad)
-Vier schwere Maschinengewehr-Züge (4 heavy MG platoons) w/ each:
Zugführer
Zwei Gruppen mit je 2 sMG (2 squads with 2 heavy MG each)

Schwere Kompanie (Heavy company) w/
-Pionierzug (engineer platoon)
-Infanteriegeschützzug (2 leichte IG) (infantry gun platoon w/ 2 75mm howitzers)
-Pak-Zug (antitank platoon, composition unknown)
-Granatwerferzug (6 Granatwerfer 8 cm) (mortar platoon with 6 80mm mortar)

that's 48 heavy MGs per battalion, and it was fully motorized.

I believe MAP is going in the right direction here.. Military abbreviations and jargon still hold true to this day in certain instances... Nice buckle too..
