Kriegsmarine Buckle ????

Hi,

I purchased this steel buckle with tab: (Brüder Schneider AG, 1940, Wien) complete with leather belt, for two days (14€).

Surprise !!! When I clean the buckle, 4 colors appear,
1) steel silver, 2) gold, 3) grey-green & 4) dark green.

The hook on the leather belt is in brass.

What is the original color ?
Could it be that s an original Kriegsmarine buckle re used as a Heer buckle ? or complete fantasy ?

Firstly Carfin, you have alot of luck buying militaria!!! Mate 14 Euros!!!! The buckle is a typical Schneider buckle IMO probably green was the original colour, however you have the buckle in hand and can tell the best, here are a couple of Schneider examples, look from the rear at the big "ears" by this maker, very typical

BTW with the brass hook belt is probably Weimar era, also look at the catch on yours and the 1940 dated example

Thank you very much for reply, its very helpfull for me to know the manufacturer style, & its only by spécialist that I could find so fine informations.

I collect WW2 militaria since 45 years ago; German, French & US. I have a privat muséum with 28 mannequins & all the stuff who go with it.

My spéciality is US items, but since a few years I collect more & more german items, & I must learn every days.
So it is very important for me to ask a "buckle spécialits" like you for good informations. Merci beaucoup.

Every week, some providers, have militaria stuff to sell, generally I buy the lot with two other collector friends & we sell what we dont collect.

Carfin, you are most welcome, if you look in the M4 makers list and the Non M4 makers list you will find an example of most Heer buckles that were made bewteen them, both are excellent for cross referencing and bukcle Id
