British Composite helmet history - do we know it?

Article about: We SHOULD. I recently read that a boxed and dated Mk6 (sic) (I suspect they meant Mk6ALPHA) had been observed dated 2014 and another dated 2013. I've travelled around UK shows and last year

Could someone please let me know how to tell if a helmet has been refurbished. I was completely unaware this happened. What was done to the helmets?
On a note about when smooth helmets disappeared, when I was issued mine in 88 I got a n 87 dated smoothy as did 99% of my intake but there was a small number of t textured helmets issued with 88 dates.
My second helmet issued in 89 was textured and had a 88/89 date.
Does anyone know why the date stamp crossed two years?

It would have been made in either the latter part of 88 or the early part of 89.

Mr (or Mrs?) Bendy....welcome...anyone who’s actually USED “stuff” is soooo welcome here...most of us just acquire it and wonder. Please add what you can, where you can about kit.

Thank you. So we know they were making(?)/issuing(?) smooth Mk6 into 1987.

...and sadly, here's another question....would ones helmet have been RECALLED to be refurb'd or would it have happened as one left the service........the reason I ask in if one served from say 1986 to 1998 could someone have never had a refurb'd 6?..is this the reason they're still found ie they were being used all the time???

Perhaps there was no schedule of refurbishment and it all depends on local inspection for damage or deterioration, anything deemed unserviceable being returned to NP for re-making.

Many - most? - other composites have a specified use-by date but as far as I know the Mk6 shell was believed to have an indefinate life barring damage (source being a seemingly authoritative post on ARRSE!). Straps and liner can be easily replaced in-unit, so we're looking at actual damage to the shell.

Of course you do realise I am just making this up as I go, yeah?
