KOD 89 3rd Ulanen Regiment Alexander II

This is a standard Cavalry sword model 1889 knows as the KOD 89 by W.K.C.
2 things about this sword makes it special: its bakelite grip instead of the common rubberized one and its etch, its dedicated to Alexander II of Russia some info:
Ulanen-Regiment Kaiser Alexander II. von Rußland (1. Brandenburgisches) Nr.3
Das Ulanenregiment ist nach Zar (Kaiser) Alexander II. von Rußland benannt.
Es ist das 1. aus der Provinz Brandenburg, und das 3. des Deutschen Reiches.
(Königlich Preussischen dritten Ulanen-Regiments)

First Ulanen ( Cavalry) regiment from Brandenburg and 3rd in the Imperial empire.
When the first World War broke out and Germany and Russia became enemy's the Regiment name was abandonned, and the etch was forbidden in 1915, so this is a rare one to find and i just couldnt resist it!
Its hard to capture an etch when the sun is out there shining and the blade is a plated one, but i did my best

##10.3.1823: 3. Ulanen-Regiment
##10.3.1855: 3. Ulanen-Regiment (Kaiser von Russland)
##4.7.1860: 1. Brandenburgisches Ulanen-Regiment (Kaiser von Russland) Nr. 3
##11.12.1873: Ulanen-Regiment Kaiser Alexander von Russland (1. Brandenburgisches) Nr. 3
##27.3.1881: 1. Brandenburgisches Ulanen-Regiment (Kaiser Alexander II. von Russland) Nr. 3
##27.1.1889: Ulanen-Regiment Kaiser Alexander II. von Rußland (1. Brandenburgisches) Nr.3
till 1915 then abandoned

As the others stated a beautiful sword , I don't have the appropriate period WKC catalog, with the KOD 89 designation not familiar to me. With my Eickhorn catalog showing Ulanen-Regiment Kaiser Alexander III. von Rußland No. 1 and Brandenburgisches Dragoner-Regiment No. 2 both having an Offizer-Säbel with a three branch guard in the French style with an Eagle head. Hi Fred this particular one is also called: Preußischer Kavallerie-(Mannschafts/Offizier)-Extradegen M 89 or simply Kavellerie Extradegen M89 ( KD M89)
As stated the abandoned etch makes this one very rare, otherwise the KD M89 can still be found in Germany when you search well enough, or luckily run into one

Interesting. In the Eickhorn catalog for reasons best known to those who created it in the pre-WW I era it's simply listed as the Preussischer Kavallerie-Extrasäbel. Best Regards, Fred
