A most peculiar sword

I have only grabbed a couple of pictures off the net as this peculiar sword is on it's way to me.
My opinion at the moment before it arrives is that it could be a liberated Gendarmerie Royale weapon that has had 2 Nazi plates knocked up and soldered to the hilt.
Note how the swastika is the wrong way round.

Either that, or it is a hunk of junk destined to adorn my office out of reach and nearly out of sight.

What do you edged weapon men think?

Like you said, it very much looks like an Imperial era lion head sword with 2 absurdly backwards swastika plates soldered to it. You can see the crude solder job particularly on the eagles left wing on the guard side. A shame, as it has pretty much ruined a decent sword. Maybe with a miniature torch, the solder could be heated and melted and the plates removed and the piece cleaned up abit?

Thanks for your input Wagriff,
I must admit I am quite intrigued with the naivety of the whole thing.
I am looking forward to seeing just how good the Nazi applications are.
I would like to think that it was worn by some cheapskate Polizei Officer who went down the route of converting a sword picked up during WW1 in France rather than splashing out on a nice Eickhorn or Klaas

What you can’t see at the moment is the curved blade rather than the straight Degen type. I’ll post the pictures when it arrives.

Hello Richie,
thanks for that, I do think you are wrong as I have seen the nice gold inlay on the blade.
The makers mark is compatible with the French Gendarmerie Royale blades that I have seen.

Rest assured …not being an edged weapon collector I never pay too much for anything

All details like; oak leaves, lion's head, swas and the eagle must have been made on hand of a very poor description, as non seem to match what they should represent.
I agree; new item!
Seems like it was on the forum before as well!?

This sword will be destined to the " Best Of the Worst thread" so this word as bad as it is ,,,,,,,is not a total loss..as It adds to our data base of horrid fakes for other collectors to view. Regards Larry
