The 1914/1918 Ehrenkreuz

Article about: by danhashman There are those little crossed swords on the ribbon. Is there something to tell about that? I often see Ehrenkreuze whose ribbons have no little swords attached to it, i guess

Can I add my Urkunde ( certificate ) for the Ehrenkreuz für Witwen (Honour Cross for Widows)

I noticed that none have been shown so far and couldn't find anything requesting not to post accompanying paperwork...?

    Cheers, Dan

It's been a while, but here is my most recent acquisition: A miniature medal bar combining the Ehrenkreuz für Kriegsteilnehmer with the Prussian Rote-Kreuz-Medaille III. Klasse. (It's also shown on my thread about the latter decoration.)

Scale reference shot to illustrate the quality of the miniatures' details. (Ribbon width and medal diameter are both 15 mm.):

Acquired from the same source, here are two pieces with which I am quite pleased as I hadn't yet owned examples for these two mounting styles. Here are an Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer on a triangular ribbon and an Ehrenkreuz für Kriegsteilnehmer on a pentagonal one:

They came with these two pieces. An unmounted Ehrenkreuz für Kriegsteilnehmer:

And a ribbon bar combining the ribbon for the Kriegsteilnehmer cross and the Sudetenland medal:

    Hallo Herr Hauptmann.
I especially like the miniatures. They are so cute i would be tempted to wear them

The triangular ribbons are often seen on Austrian medals. It's possible that the owner was Austrian.

That's right. The triangular fold was worn in Austria-Hungary and the states that evolved from this former empire. The majority of recipients of the 1914/18 Honor Cross were civilians, many of whom preferred the various traditional mounting styles over the then-regulation mounting style as used by the Wehrmacht.

This gave me an idea... For additional illustration, I threw together some examples for different mounting styles.

    The 1914/1918 Ehrenkreuz

    Top row, left to right:
    - Trapezoidal mount (Old Prussian style)
    - Folded/bloused mount (Bavarian style)
    - Pentagonal mount (Saxon style)

    Bottom row, left to right:
    - Arched ribbon mount (Prussian parade mount-/Third Reich-era style)
    - Triangular mount (Austro-Hungarian style)
    - "Ribbon bar" style

    Thumbs up 1914/18 Ehrenkreuz

    Hello,
This is a very interesting thread. Here is my 1914/18 Ehrenkreuz contribution.

    Regards,
    Jody

These two bars are frack style (worn on the tuxedo). The top bar is one of my favorites because it has a Silesian eagle and the bottom bar has a rare 3rd Reich made straight 9 EK.
