Hi Jo, awarded for 6 months service in North Africa. But this could be waved if the soldier was wounded.
Cheers Ade, i was looking for something else last night, and found the early 1944 amendment to this, saying that the Afrika cuff was now also allowed to be awarded for:
Regardless of the service time - as long as the person acquired a "bravery award" on African soil, ie: Iron Cross, German Cross in Gold, Mention in the Ehrenblatt etc....
So i guessed that it was initially for a period of service, but never actually bothered to read up on how long. Seems that this "award" went the same road as many others towards the end of the war, firstly awarded for a specific reason, then later changed/added onto.
