Why? Just because it's corrosion or it makes you suspicious of something?
There is nothing supicious about this cross that's for sure. The green corrosion is there as a result of cupal being used in it's construction, an aluminium alloy based material sandwiched by a thin copper coating on (in this case) either side. The cross has suffered moisture damage at sometime as can be seen by the rust on the base of the black sunburst as well as the verdigris.
Therefore I imagine the concerns raised must be of a purely aesthetic nature, but the cross is what it is.
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
It seems a pity, but I do not think I can write more. R. SCOTT.
Last Entry - For God's sake look after our people.'
