Deutsches Kreuz in Gold Awarded to SS Officer

This German Cross in Gold was a postumous ward to Sturmbannfuhrer Alfred Arnold, commander of Panzer Brigade Gross. Arnold was killed in East Prussia on 10 October, 1944. He was the son of Brigadefuhrer Alfred Arnold, a wealthy landowner, political leader and head of the local Reichsnahrstadt near Stuttgart.

This is part of a very large grouping of Arnold's material that was purchased from his sister quite a while ago. The grouping included three framed studio photos, several hundred photographs, Arnold's decorations, a tunic, breeches, schiffen, boots and several hundred of Arnold's personal documents. Included were over seventy letters of condolence to the family-many from leading figures of the 3rd Reich and the S S such as Himmler and Darre.
