Article about: Thanks for the info everyone; I think I might take out a classified ad here within the next few days. Any opinions on what a fair asking price might be? Thanks again!

I have just noticed that the crosses posted by ludovit1 in posts #31 and #36 have at sometime or another been offered for sale at 'Snyder's Treasures'. Either he's having very bad luck in picking a good one, or he's testing the knowledge of members here IMO....

Perhaps the Gentleman ludovit1 alludes to in his first couple of posts is Charlie himself?

The arch enemy and nemesis of Double-O-Ned.......?

No Double-O, or any funny games... But, you are right, the crosses are from that site; the price seemed too good to be true... Good thing I asked you and Ned told me to stay away. Thanks.
There is so many fakes out there; is there a good literature you can recommend that teaches about this? I'll be going to some sales in Europe (and many of my friends go), but I am scared to fork out so much cash just to find out it's a fake...
    And that's my story...

If you buy this book you'll never go wrong when looking for a genuine cross.

THE GERMAN CROSS – Dietrich Maerz | | Reddick Militaria

It's not cheap, but then again it's the best accumulation of info anywhere at the moment. And what price if you spend thousands on a bogus piece???

    Buy the book!!

BTW, I have no monetary interest or otherwise in the vendor, it's just that they specialise in the U.S. & Canada.

The first piece of advice from any collector would be to stay right away from Snyder's site. Even if he does have the most basic and common of awards for sale which are original, I would urge anyone not to buy them purely on principle based upon the rest of the rubbish he peddles on his site with fantasy stories and items. Never has there been such a blatant and known conman.

There are books about the DK and plenty to read about here on the forum and on the internet. If you're going to a European sale, get to know which dealers will be there and which of those have the best reputation. Get a money back guarantee on your potential purchase and better still, go with someone you trust and knows about these awards.

Double-O-Ned might even accompany you if you buy him a Vodka Babycham.........
