My uncle served in Germany as part of the Allied reconstruction effort. He brought back some relics that were passed to me decades ago. I'm finally getting around to assessing their value. The following looks to me to be either a genuine Blood Medal or a very good reproduction. He spent time in Munich and this is probably where he acquired it.

I would greatly appreciate any opinions and advice. Please let me know if I need to further improve lighting on the medal.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

An interesting and rare award. I know very little about these so I can't give you any qualified answer as to the originality but comparing to others on this forum I have noticed a few discrepancies in the details and the font of the words. There is also some, what appears to be bubbling, on the wreath under the eagle which doesn't look good.

However these are just my initial observations and I'm sure a few more members will chime in with additional thoughts.

The overall appearance is good I just wonder about the rough looking bubbling and if this is just from the finish - was a finish applied to a silver medal? This one doesn't look plain silver.

I personally think it stands a very good chance. There are more things I like about it than dislike. I hope a few more members with experience of these awards will offer their comments.

It's a nice original 1st pattern Blood Order and you're a lucky guy!

The bubbling you see is the remains of the laquer.

I like it and it looks to have a good amount of the original lacquer put on to protect the silver.

Thanks for you input Eric! I didn't realise these were lacquered.

So they are basically pure silver that had a coat of lacquer applied?

If it's a first pattern medal I'm fairly sure Ade Stevenson might be able to tell you who it was awarded to.

The first 800 or so went to people involved directly in the Putsch. This could be a very exciting 'sleeper' that's come up. It'll be interesting if it can be traced to the recipient, I think John Pepera has the most complete list?
