You're right, it doesn't look very good. You would need to go a long way to find a fake Ehrenkreuz, I can't recall seeing one before.
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
I agree with Adrian and gel45; does not look good. These are indeed not heavily faked, simply because original ones are always readily available for very little money.

It could be the fakers have started to produce these so "9" will be accepted. Or testing their evil skills on a medal to see if it slips thru the cracks.

I can't imagine there's much money in it for them, a very common medal, low value and without meaning to be disrespectful, relatively undesireable too.

I agree with you Adrian.... but think of it that way. Since its not so desireable and does not command a lot of money collectors might buy a fake thinking that the cross HAS to be genuine since fakers would waste its time on it!!
