Ehrenkreuz des Weltkriegs 1914/1918 - fake?!

I think that the "1" between the 9 and the 8 looks even worse...it seems to be tilted. How bizarre...to go to the trouble and expense to make a fake of a medal that's worth basically very little even when original.

Well, it is a fake but who wants to fake it when originals are so cheap - not more than 10 euro?

Ironically this faked ehrenkreuz is probably rarer than the original

actually I have to admit I held my ehrenkreuz next to the picture of the faked one and could not really tell the difference (once again due to my inexperience no doubt)
apart from the number 9 which looked a little off I would not have been able to tell

which 2-3 things immediately stood out to you guys that it was fake?

That is a very good observation and very true!

In answer to your question, the reverse would be my particular concern. There are pits on the surface which indicate a casting, air bubbles which have popped. Also the circular indentation on the reverse where the wreath would be. The material has flowed into this deeper area of the mould and as it hardened off, sank down in this area leaving the sunken shadow on the reverse surface.

Also the sword's handles are not even the same size... The edges of the cross itself are rough and dont match in size! Hate to admit it but I bought this cross in austria this summer (back then I had no knowledge or very little knowledge about german medals)...

Could be a chinese piece of junk!They would fake anything and there are fake tinnies around already and i am wondering when we will see fake SS tinnies or have any of you seen them at shows?Wonder why some new guys pass on our hobby!
