Hi they aren't Iron Crosses. They are Crosses of Honor for WWI veterans issued during Third Reich era.

    Welcome to the forum Daniel,

As stated above, these are not EisernesKreuzen (Iron Crosses) as such.

    Regards,

    Carl

These are commonly called "Hindenburg crosses", presented for service in WW1...your type is for a non combatant, there is a version with swords, for frontline service, and a type that is black with no swords for next of kin of fallen troops...these were authorized after WW1, but we're issued in the 1930's, and possibly the first award presented during the TR.....these are fairl common and worth around 80-100 dollars...

Yours is an maker marked version, missing its ribbon..... In this condition probaly around 20 dollars

Sorry, you have one with swords too!

Hi friends, thanks a lot for your replies, they are really clarifying.
AMTG do you have pictures of the black cross you are talking about?

In the other hand, there is a black cross with a swastica in the middle and the dates 1939 in the front and 1813 in the back. Do you know some info about it? My friend has one, but I think is not original but a bad replica.

Thanks Woolgar. I agree, the replica is dreadful. I´m a rookie and I also realised of that
Why the date 1813? Is this the first time that the cross was issued?

    Kind regards!

The date 1813 features on the EK as it is the date of institution. Each time the cross was re-instated the date of that institution was featured on the obverse so w you will find EKs with the dates 1870, 1914, 1939. You will not find one marked 1957 as this wasn't a re-institution but rather a re-design.

There is a dedicated EK forum for more information and where all EK posts should be placed.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

Also, if you would like to see more examples of the 1914/18 Ehrenkreuz, you might want to have a look at a thread I started on this subject: The 1914/1918 Ehrenkreuz at War relics forum
