That's a very good price IMO. Not the most common maker of these badges to find. Well done and hope you can post some pics when you get it.

    Hi Guys,

Just stumbled across this thread when google searching. Nice minesweeper badge. Not a Förster & Barth though. The "inverse-taper" shaped pin was used by F&B, S&L and Wiedmann. F&B's zinc badges used a version that was non-ferrous, i.e. doesn't attract to a magnet, whereas the Steinhauer & Lück late zinc badges used ferrous pins -- you'll find that yours attracts to a magnet. Also the trimming outlines are different on these S&Ls than on the F&B's, notably around the eagle's head. The S&L zincers are never maker-marked but share a characteristic bent flaw on the reverse side on the left inner wreath, seen on the S&L '57 versions as well.

I'd agree the market value from a dealer would be more like twice what you paid, but they're not uncommon and often have lost all their gilding, and will sit around unsold for ages. For quick sale of these you'll always have to undersell dealer's prices.

BTW, the Auxiliary Cruiser badge with the same setup is also an S&L. These ACs are 2-piece riveted badges, in contrast to the heavier one-piece F&B which sometimes has the maker's L/21 marking on the pin.

    Cheers.
    ---Norm
