Re: Kriegsmarine Badges - Reals or Fakes
I will start separate threads for different badges in the future if I ever need to post again. Sorry for the trouble and thank you for the link.
To answer where the are coming from, a lot of them seem to be coming from the United States South, since that is not the only one I have seen with that writing on the back (referring to uboat)

Re: Kriegsmarine Badges - Reals or Fakes
Since you took pictures of the back, my first obvious difference would appear to be the way the clasp on the back is constructed (while there seems to be several styles the hinge itself seems much different than all the other medals posted on the site). Is that a correct judgement?

Re: Kriegsmarine Badges - Reals or Fakes
Yes, from the back your can see the hinge, pin and catch are totally wrong. Also compare the outline of the flag and the top part of the boat, the bridge outline and the indistinct outline of the wreath. The material is also wrong, it looks like a soft lead based alloy and the swirl marks from the casting are evident.
From the front, look at the eagle's feathers on the wings, the chest and the facial features. Look also at the boat, the torpedo tube cover on the fake is pointing at a downwards angle. The oak leaves on the wreath are also very poor in execution and the waves are very different.

Where are they coming from?
Adrian,
The origin of these fakes is East Europe. I bought such badges from polish guys just for interest for each 15 E.

Alex
