I have no idea if it's original, but if these holes were 'factory' they would be
toward the very edges and not punched randomly, willy-nilly all over
the surface of the badge.
Anyone on it's authenticity..............?

Re: KRIM SHIELD FOR GREAT COAT w/ steel back plate
the 4 little holes look exactly like the 4 bigger hole as being punched and not drilled ...its got me stumped ...iv never seen one like it ...i think it is original but like you say why the extra holes??...they were the main reason i traded for it ....punched not drilled???....hum!!!

Yes, six holes, apologies. Either way none of them should be there and there is no way an award would be defaced like this to be mounted on a greatcoat. The cloth backing which is missing from this shield would've been sewn to the uniform whether it be a tunic or greatcoat and the holes would'nt be necessary.
The random placing of the holes leads me to think this was under something else that was being drilled/punched and this was collateral damage and unintended.
