My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

Been looking at the threads here backwards and forwards, haven't found one yet that compares. I've seen many fakes and the only thing I've spotted so far is that this one does not have the notch on the coastline under the wreath...But according to others posts it has the correct flat wire prongs.
But my head is spinning on these. Never studied them...so many varients... But still comparing.......
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the much better pics! Not a good one I'm afraid, this one's known ominously as the "No.1 Fake", which in itself is rather indicative of it's preponderance amongst many collections.....
Regards, Ned.

Yep, the missing "notch" is the main giveaway. Based on a known original type and very close to the original. The "notch" and a few other tiny differences on the coastal outlines apart, its damned close to the real thing. On the top photo, do I see a coppery/brass base metal colour showing through ?. If so, another giveaway as originals are always either steel or zinc. This fake has however been made in both steel and brass.
Beware Krim shields, they are addictive. :-)
Thank you both Gentleman. Our suspisions were proved correct. But would not have been able to confirm without you.
Still need to pick one up but would like to purchase the reference books first if I can.
Michael
