I held this in my hands today from a private collection... I don't know much about this (the actual owner was not present) ... I read there were as little as 50 awarded? does anyone have info on these?
Thanks in advance...

Here is a link to these extremely rare Luftwaffe Ground Action awards. This one posted looks questionable to me.
non Portable Luftwaffe Awards

Thank you for the link... so the proper name is "Luftwaffe salver of Honor"... with only 50 or so awarded ... I'm sure many are faked...
So basicaly you weren't brave enough to be awarded the Germsn cross in gold, so here's a plate!
I'd feel ripped off!
Rare and expensive, and you guessed it, faked too.
I have no real experience with these, only held one once.
Cheers, Ade.

But,hey...they came in a nice blue Case with a document, anyway. Even if they weren't actually made of Silver, they Were genuine "Alpaca"...The Luftwaffe sure knew how to honor their ground guys...The big shot pilots...they got real diamonds on their badges. The ground guys....yep,like you said, they got a copper and nickel alloy Plate. "Look,Dear! I got all shot up by a couple of Russian fighters that were strafing our airfield and I got ripped up saving a couple of our aircraft, but my Commander Did give me this nice plate!" Ah! The glories of war.....
