I agree with Nick. The tiny maker mark over the gator's left arm is always a good sign, too.

Both of the fakes I have of this medal have the MM above the arm, though one of them has it above the other arm, so maybe not a good sign on its own IMO.

I always like to see the edge on these, as all the fakes I have seen have a casting seam around them.

Tony..........you came to the right place with your question....Nick..Joe T...and Jerry are right on.....also check behind the alligators head , i believe it is the designers name .........................DE MARCHIS....this one is the early bronze with makers mark.................also a later medal was issued in silvered or grey metal .......................Dave H
