Default Medaille "Winterschlacht im Osten 1941/42" - "77"?

    Hi,

I have acquired this nice looking Ostmedaille which appears to be marked ”77” for Hauptmünzamt München. According to the book by Sacha Weber “Die Medallie Winterschlacht im Osten” there is no reference to this maker.

It is not marked “71” for Rudolf Leukert since that mark looks different. As a reference I have taken a picture of the “71” maker mark of my Ostmedaille to compare, and that match perfect the one in Weber´s book.

    What is your opinion?

    Thanks
    /Jonas

It's not two '7's otherwise the bottoms wouldn't fare out like they appear to do.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

    Hi Jonas,

Could it be the number '22' for Boerger & Co. with the tops of both numbers missing due to the fact that you can see nearly a third of the incuse makers mark is missing? It's a miss strike in my opinion, but I can easily see why you say it looks like a number '77'.

    Regards, Ned.

    Hmm.

I though the mark for Boerger & Co was a stamped mark - at least they are on EK2s.........?

According to this link from HWM, the number 77 WAS found on Ost medals. Under the 2 lists, one apparently Weber's, the number is descibed as 'Bayrisches Hauptmunzamt' and 'Hauptmunzamt Munchen'.

Also, Boerger & Co is not an listed Ostmedaille maker. And I do not think it is a "55" either.

    Hello,

beautiful coin you show us because they like it very much. If you like the medal, I'll take it .
Your piece is shown from the manufacturer 77 ( Bayrisches Hauptmünzamt, München ).
It is also not so easy to find, which are somewhat rare.

There is no reliable and verifiable pieces of Boerger & Co. until now.

From the same link, the actual stamp for Bayrisches Haupmunzamt that clearly shows it to be '77'. This photo belongs to forum member 'Schwelch' (Sven).

So it appears there is no mystery in the first place....

EDIT: You beat me to it, but an interesting half hour spent all the same.
