Article about: This nice eastern front medal made by Otto Zappe (110) came in the mail today. 1 +1 makes 2 now!!! Definitely in my top 3 favorite 3rd Reich medals. A simple design, but striking.

That is a nice one that still looks to retains its finish.
I have one that came in the envelope, but I'm thinking the base metal must be zinc because over the years the finish seem to be diminishing.

    Thanks Phil!

It's my understanding almost all Ost medals will be zinc. Unfortunately, what you're seeing is the zinc absorbing the silver, something that will probably happen to all of them over time.

It is a sad fact indeed about zinc Avenger. The Germans made some of the most exquisite awards and over time they have turned into faded memories of there grandeur.

Very nice example, some zincers can retain their finish well. Perhaps some manufacturers used poorer quality zinc?

One of my own Ostmedaille in good condition still...

Glen, I'll keep an eye out for you. I see them from time to time. If you watch the estand at wehrmacht award forum, that's a good place to find them.
