I like it, it matches the few other examples I've seen and the quality is there. No problems with it for me. A really good looking award.
The source is a good one too and it originally came through another good source so I would say it's a fairly safe bet.

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

Hi Kemi, it is a nice original cross.

These can be found in two versions where the number 4 is a slightly different shape.

    Cheers, Ade.

I have always liked these too. I first saw one back in the 1970's but it was priced at £65 back then, and I could not afford it. This was when most combat badges were £15 to £20 each.

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Nick, it would have been. But my wages were £20 a week back then aged 16. I have always regretted not getting it.

The one you show is for the Eismeerfront: there is also a Lapplandfront badge.

The Nordfront crosses have the dates 41-42 or 41-43 and come with either a black or white background. The most common version is the white background one with 41-43 date as shown in this thread.

The Lapplandfront & Eismeerfront versions have dates 41-43 or 41-44 and again with a black or white background.

Overall there were about 12 versions of these badges available which just differ in detail. All were private purchase items and had no official standing in the German forces and were not entered in the Soldbuch or Wehrpass.

    Cheers, Ade.
