Interesting piece Roger, can't remember seeing an L/58 marked Ostmedaille.
I wonder if the consensus will be pre May 1945 or after............?
Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....
I only sprung for it because of the information on this forum: General information about the Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten / Eastern Front Medal and their manufacturers - Service Awards of the Wehrmacht & SS - Historical War Militaria Forum
This same list on this forum: https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/order...iction-386965/
If it is post-war, then so be it. I would, of course, label it as such and put it with the other items that have proven themselves false.
I do look forward to hearing any and all opinions. Thank you!

Hello,
it is definitely a Souval piece!
But, there have been found in packaging bags until today only unmarked pieces.
Therefore to date it is not clear whether there has been marked pieces from this manufacturer.
I hope I could help a little.
The Souval wartime/post war question rears it's head on a regular basis.
L/58 marked packets and award cases are known to exist before May 1945 so it would be fair to surmise Souval made LDO marked products to go in these cartons before the end of the war.

Well, thankfully we are not talking about a highly expensive piece here. It would be different if it were something like a Ritterkreuz. Then resolution of the question would be highly significant. It sounds like this is one of those mysteries that has yet to be, and may never be, answered fully to satisfaction. Fog of war, and all that . . .
Thanks for the information and opinions. As always, all input is valuable and welcome.
For the record, I would be happy with it.
