    Hi everyone

I have two Eastern Front medals, originals but both have different silk ribbons (see photos and diagram) question is, are there variations on ribbon manufacture?

Overall size is within 1mm but the split (red, white, black) is visibly different. Get yer rulers out.

The one on the right does look a bit wide, but imo both are acceptable.
    Interesting to hear other views

I would like to see some better pics of the wider black stripe ribbon, especially of the edges if possible?

Agreed, impossible to see the end stitching pattern with the photos. Can't say i've seen an Ostmedaille ribbon with such a wide black stripe though.

As requested, close ups, or as close as I can get of the wide ribbon

Well it could be simply an odd manufacturer ribbon but without any proof of that i'd be leaning towards a repro ribbon. Have you done a black light test? I don't like the rollover stitch on each side plus the white thread on the left side edge shouldn't be there IMO.

Compared with my ribbons I also note the white sections are 3 threads wide as compared to 5 threads with your example. But at the end of the day does it bother you? If so then original mint ribbons are relatively easy to find and are often $10 or so. (I think Lakesidetrader had some awhile back). If it doesn't bother you then just keep it as an interesting possible variant.

    Hi Glenn

It doesn't really bother me as such, was just interested. The thicker version ribbon is of a lot more delicate silk (thinner) compared to the other. The white thread you mention on the edge is the white paper showing through the holes/hoops.

I have noticed that most modern/repro ribbons are made of a stiffer thread, although mine could still be a repro.

Haven't done a blacklight test as I don't have one.

For me, it's a fake ribbon and would seek an original replacement.

I've had a search for some original ribbon but no joy, any pointers?
