Default Reichsadler Badge Found in Buenos Aires

On vacation in Buenos Aires a couple of weeks ago I found this very nice Reichsadler badge. It's quite large at 11 centimeters or 4.25 inches across.

Where would this have been worn? It seems too big for a hat. There are no makers marks on the stamping. It is non magnetic so I am assuming it is stainless steel. Any comments as to real / fake would be appreciated.

Hi George, sorry to say it is a British made fake from the 1970's. Points to note are the tilted out of line swastika and the crude fixing lugs to the rear.

It is supposed to be a KM Pith helmet eagle worn on the dress version of the helmet.

Here is an original from my collection.

    Cheers, Ade.

Darn. Well it still looks good and I got it for a resonable price.

    By KM you mean Kriegsmarine?

What is your's made from and how was it attached?

Hi George, yes KM = Kriegsmarine

My original is made of zink. Sadly the prongs which would attatch it to the helmet are broken off, but these are much finer that the ones on the fakes.

    Cheers, Ade.

This type of Kreigsmarine pith helmet eagle only had one central, downward pointing, prong. No idea where mine is stored, so no pic, at this time.

    Default Eagle

    Hello,
Yes, the eagle that started this thread is an old reproduction. It is as Adrian pointed out an eagle for the KM pith helmet. Here is my early tombak example.

Hi, as you already know this is unfortunately a fake. I remember these very same pieces being sold in my local Government Surplus store back in the early 80's. Leon.
