Ribbon Bar vs. Bow?

Hello, all!

I recently was gifted a bow for the War Merit Cross 2nd Class w/ Swords. I have also noticed that there are ribbon bars for the same award.

I was wondering, what is the difference between the two?

Was one intended for civilian use while the other for military use? Was one meant to be worn on a dress uniform and the other on a standard service uniform? Was the bow worn post-war by veterans?

... as I look at the bow... the colors seem to be arranged like the EK2 ribbon... any help on this?

I believe the bow was to be worn in the lapel of civilian jackets

Actually , no its not ! It looks to be an EK2 ribbon !

Shouldn't the colors be reversed..? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the color pattern on this bow for the EK2? Maybe I drank too much coffee this morning... or not enough!

It looks to me as if there are two ribbons on the bow, Iron Cross on the front, War Merit Cross on the back. Perhaps its meant to represent both medals, with the swords relating to the War Merit Cross?
