I've heard that Steinhauer & Luck made medals and sold to the allied soldiers as souvenirs.
Souval was one of-if not The worst of the lot for doing this. They produced badges, awards and medals by the tons for a long time after the war's end. They Did make them During the war as well, which complicates things considerably....

Hard to say. The photos aren't high enough resolution to see the surface detail. It seems more likely to me that it was there originally and then ground off. The later post-war Souval cast versions without the "R.S" mark also lack the outlines for the hinge and catch.
I am sure I can see the ghost of the RS mark...
