I think at the least it has been repainted. There are marks on the sword grip that show no damage to the color and that doesn't make sense to me.
Is it just the picture, or does the sword blade appear off-center in reference to the hilt? The maker mark on the back looks poor. Again it might be the picture, but it does look painted, as Glenn stated. I am not fond of this one.
I agree about the repaint...it seems pretty obvious that this has paint that is not period. I have an issue in that this is purporting to be a first pattern badge but the serial number is so high...I have trouble seeing a first pattern badge with a serial number that high. The serial number is also a little lacking...the first number is weak...is it a 4 or a 9? In any case I do not see a first pattern with a serial number in the high 400,000's or 900,000's.
This is just my opinion though.

I agree with William. Take a look at the sword's grip
on the reverse, as well as the off-center blade
which Roger has pointed out.........

The one shown above in post #8 in bronze
is a genuine piece.........!
